My DJ Experience!

Divinity djing at Camp on West 6th in Austin.

So I've been a professional DJ for around 6 years now. I started DJing when I was in middle school, doing small events at church or family events. I decided to start taking it seriously when I was in high school. Unfortunately, when I decided to put my all into DJing, COVID-19 stopped everything, and I didn't use my time wisely during the lockdown. I can't blame myself too much; I was still a carefree kid who didn't really care about anything besides video games. In 2020, I started back up again and started charging people for my service. It took time to start back up again; fortunately, my dad would drive me to my gigs and parties until I got my license.

Since 2020, my progress as a DJ hasn't been linear. It was hard to get gigs in certain places since I wasn't 21. I was doing either school events or private events, and the school events would be from my old high school since I went to a community college. While everyone's journey is different, I genuinely believed that I was making all the wrong decisions! Even now, I face problems, but I don't let them bring me down! Throughout my years as a DJ, I've played for crazy crowds! I've played for more than 5,000 people at once, been flown out to New York, Georgia, and California, and even met some of my favorite artists & creators, just by being a DJ.

As a DJ, I play almost everything (besides country). I fall under the "open format" category as a DJ. The genres I play the most are RnB, Rap, and Afrobeats. I've grown up listening to and playing Afrobeats and other sub-genres of Nigerian music. As I've grown, I've expanded to more Rap, RnB, and Neo-Soul.
